Project Description

My target audience is 5th and 6th grade science teachers at Oakwood Intermediate School in College Station. My main objective is to teach teachers how to create effective Problem-based Learning experiences using Information Technologies with a particular focus on science. I will invite teachers to attend a primary workshop in which they will understand the need for problem-based learning activities. They will study the effectiveness of them by completing a project evaluation form on an existing problem-based learning project on their own. After they have had time to use or evaluate one, I will have them return and create one based on a topic of their choice. I plan on introducing the concept of Information Technologies and modeling some examples of IT. One particular example is the use of GIS in the context of problem-based learning in science. Models, concept maps, and a systems approach will be incorporated into the learning and construction process. We will link the projects onto one webpage where it can be shared and viewed by others.
