Project Description

The proposed focus of our professional development project is an assessment of Problem-Based-Learning (PBL) in Geology. We will define and describe PBL for the college setting. Using the dominant PBL models available on the Internet, such as virtual field trips, WebQuests, and interactive web modules, we will assess the availability, content, user-friendliness, rigorousness, and appeal.

After our evaluation, we will invite a total of 5 to 10 University professors in the Geology/Geophysics Department and teaching assistants (upper-level courses) at Texas A&M University to a professional development workshop. We will discuss and provide information on PBL, facilitate exploration of the available modules, and discuss the applicability to courses in geology.
